10 Things I learned about New Orleans from the 1973 James Bond film, “Live and Let Die”:
1. Voodoo is an accepted part of the local crime underworld.
2. Taxis are allowed drive the wrong way down one way streets. That’s just how we roll down here.
3. 2 tons of heroin was worth $2,000,000,000 in 1973.
4. Female Tarot card readers lose their ability to tell the future when they lose their virginity.
5. New Orleans music clubs have trapdoors in the floors.
6. Evil henchmen usually wear bright primary colors.
7. You can drive to an alligator farm in 10 minutes from any place in Louisiana.
8. J.W. Pepper is a kickass name for a sheriff. Also, J.W.’s brother-in-law, Billy Bob, has the fastest boat on the whole damned river.
9. “Fillet of Soul” is a restaurant that serves soul food. Clever.
10. Voodoo rituals include, but are not limited to, the following: Snakes, torches, uncoordinated dancing, sacrificing white women, machetes, zombies made of plaster. (Note: This part did not take place in New Orleans, but it is highly accurate)
Also, the British are even smug when they are being racists.
